Are these any good?
About three years ago I heard the FTTO (first time turn on) for ECS
boards was about 50%. I had 1 out of 2 work. My friend had 1 out of 3 work.
YMMV, but don't expect too much.
Not at all surprising.
Any system, motherboard, or system component purchase should be preceded
by as much research as one can afford as to whether the product is good,
bad, or indifferent. With every system I have purchased since my 2001
VIA based Asus motherboard systems, I have spent a minimum of a week
deciding what to buy. (This includes systems for the companies I've
worked for.) This included a great deal of Internet research looking for
benchmarks, reviews, trouble reports (especially on mfg. forums, support
sites, etc.) There is just some much out there one can't decide upon the
best choice without some due diligence.
I've found even manufacturers that have excellent reputations can come
out with a lemon. The converse is also true.
And of course everything I buy *MUST* be Linux friendly. :)
