the U-Verse fiber runs to the neighborhood server boxes. Think of it like this,
Your coax cable carries all frequencies/channels at one time and you tune one
to watch it. With the U-Verse setup, they put all channel data on the fiber and
then when you sign up, you get 3 tuners in the neighborhood server box which
you remotely control to pick your channels. Those channels get you your home
over copper wires but only those channels of video.

This setup is why they have always talked about delays with channel changing.
You hit the remote control button, it tells Windows-in-the-box on your TV which
sends the message to the Server-in-the-box somewhere in your neighborhood
and the channel is tuned and is finally on it's way to your Windows-in-the-box
on your TV conversion to drive the TV.

So yes, MaBell2 has fired up some fiber in alot of neighborhoods to the tune of
costing over $5 billion. But it is still copper to the home.
