Safety is probably the biggest issue now that so much on the ECU's are directly controlling the things that effect vehicle movement. FYI, I found a couple of links which state that I-Drive is not VxWorks/Linux based so there's the RTOS and Linux both tied into one for, IMO, a far far better platform for what I-Drive does. Oh, and new 700 series are finally getting the VxWorks/Linux platform update. While Microsoft moved to Ford for a marketing platform. They made me turn my head when I heard the ad for Microsoft Sync in the Ford which then instead of saying it had a "sun roof", they called it having a "vista view".
