I took Sax lessons for a short time many years ago (I had foolishly decided to major in music in college, and lessons were required). The teacher insisted I switch to a clarinet mouth position. I resisted because it was very uncomfortable - try holding an alto sax under your armpit - and I could barely get anything out of it. And that was after I had already been playing for ten years.
