Similar for me. I started on piano, then I picked up clarinet,
harmonica, bassoon, and sax (in that order). It almost feels like each
instrument is a programming language: you use the same basic concepts
across the board, but learn a new set of constraints and syntax with
each one.

These days I just play tenor sax, clarinet, and piano/keyboard. I
haven't written anything new in ages, though I do arrangements from
time to time.

Part of the reason I got into IT was that I rarely played music for
myself when I spent 40 hours a week behind a desk editing scores. Now
that I've swapped my hobby and my career, I spend more of my free time
at the piano than I ever did before. Of course, it helps that I get
paid by grant money and they can't afford to pay me overtime...
otherwise I'd probably spend more time in the lab.
