I just installed Mandrake 10.2 on its' own computer in my small home network which also contains a WinXP Pro computer and a WinXP Home computer, both using NTFS. I have Samba partially configured I know because when I use Mandrake's computer setup utility it sees both Windows computers and all the drives and folders I have marked as shared on them. They are also all on my desktop and testparm does not indicate any errors. When I click on any one, I get the following error message:

----
Password:

cannot mount on /mnt/Max-C-(H): Operation not permitted
smbmnt failed:1

Please check that the disk is entered correctly.
----

From the Windows machines when I open My Network Places and drill down to the networks I see the Linux network with one member, Localhost. According to the books I have, to use XP Pro with Linux I have to set Samba as the Domain controller (among other things) and change the settings in the Windows computer from workgroup to member of the Linux domain. The next thing that comes up is a login window and the books tell me to login as root using the smb root password. When I do that I get the following error message:

----
The following error occurred attempting to join domain "homenet":

You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. Go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again.
----

I have changed the computer name with no effect. From both Windows computers if I click on the Localhost network member I get the following error:

----
\\Localhost is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the Administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. Go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again.
----

Neither Windows computer has a password because they are single user machines. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Be they to a web page or telling me to read pages 102 through 115 of book X, anything to get me past this part of my Linux experience. All I want to be able to do is move files between the computers.
