Can anyone tell me where Firefox is installed under Fedora 3? Is there some way to check properties on a launch icon to find out where its executable file is located?
Run 'which firefox' at a prompt.
I just installed Fedora 3. It comes with Firefox 1.0. I downloaded the Firefox 1.04 installer. Where do I move this file so it will install over the existing Firefox?
Don't. You have installed Fedora Core 3, but you've missed a very important step -- applying the latest software updates, including bugfixes and security patches. Read up a bit on the 'yum' program, or just try running 'yum update' with your machine connected to the internet.
You'll find that Firefox v1.04 is available for Core 3 from the Fedora project as an update. You don't need to use the installer that you downloaded.
That said, if you in the future wish to replace a program that was provided by your distribution, I recommend you look for a RPM package. If you cannot find one, then remove the Fedora-provided RPM before installing the new software. In the case of Firefox, you would run 'rpm -e firefox'. That will uninstall the software entirely.
