There are no fine points to installing windoze. OK, none that I'm aware
of. You just keep doing what it tells you to and rebooting and rebooting
and rebooting -- OMYGOD -- sorry, flashbacks ... and then if/when it
doesn't work, you start again.

*Always* install windoze first if you can. It has no concept of playing
at all, let alone playing nice.

I have found when I need to install windoze after a useful Linux
installation is on the HD that the following can work:

1. print the Linux fstab for reference
2. use the Linux fdisk to reassign all Linux partitions, including swap,
as type 0
3. use the M$ fdisk with the /mbr switch to overwrite grub or lilo
4. do the M$ install -- it may give you a message saying "too much of
your HD is marked bad for me to believe you and I think you're lying,"
but ignore it
5. return everything in Linux to normal and reinstall grub/lilo.

None of this has much to do with your challenge I suspect.
