Yes. The "criteria" allows setting conditions like
expiration date later than now
(or something like that)
Aside: evidently the criteria for smart folder ("Topics") is essentially
the same as an sql where clause.
Every item seems to allow setting an expiration date. I haven't
investigated the behavior when that entry is left empty.
A custom create/edit template, of course, can impose/check for required
metadata fields.
