I'd never buy a dell. Refer to my comment about, "you get what you

Then, who would you suggest?
For everybody's bitching and moaning about Dell, I really have very
little bad experience with their 1U rackmount systems. Most of our
researchers use clusters of Dell 1U servers (though, granted, not the
cheap-ass 1U servers) and we use Dell systems exclusively for
departmental services. Sure, we have a couple hardware issues (about
5 or so systems throwing hardware alerts right now), but when you
have somewhere around 500-600 1U systems, it's statistical noise.
If you actually pay for one of the upscale systems from Dell (I think
the 1U line is up to the 1950 series now?) you really do get a good
machine. My only gripe is that the remote management hardware is an
add-on, and may require a windows client to access...
Even the SATA-based 1U systems seem to be of a respectable quality.
One of our research clusters is using a rack full of them, IIRC, and
one of them is still the Asterisk PBX of my old employer, even after
a stint as a U-boat (some here may remember the story).
Just my $0.02.
