There are a few more factors involved than my simple explanation of 
fuselage side angle.  If the fuselage narrows from it's widest point 
before reaching the trail edge of the wing, a fairing of increasing 
size toward the trail edge and extending slightly aft will be of some 
benefit.  Look at some photos of say a DC3 or some of the WW2 
fighters.  Do a google search for more info and decide if you think a 
fairing will be worth the effort.
