Been more than 50 years for me but I'd think it is a property of hydraulics. Seems the pressure at any given point at the same level in the tank (we want the bottom) would be the same regardless of the shape of the tank above it. But like I said, it's been more than 50 years and I'll admit, I wasn't an A student. :-) Larry Flesner
