No, this problem has nothing to do with mime types. I'm not clear why you think it has. It also has nothing to do with Ubuntu's absent root. Yup, this is precisely the behaviour I don't want. The fonts on the app interface themselves isn't a problem - although it disturbs me that the devs aren't interested in finding out why - but the menus also exhibit the same large font and that us a nuisance. Also, some apps launched via Krusader inherit the large fonts and that too is a nuisance.
