A couple of days ago our phones started behaving oddly. Let me see if I can explain it.
Background: - KX-TD1232-4 KSU, with 2 x KX-TD170 - KX-TVS200 VPS - 8 incoming analog lines, no CID on any of the lines We're in Qwest territory, but our LD and local line provider is McCleod. For tracking purposes, we've got our outgoing calling set up through McCleod to require employees to enter a 3-digit code for toll calls. After a user dials a toll call they get a tone similar to a dial tone. They enter their user code, then the number is rung through. Now the problem: When an outside caller, dialing _long_distance_ dials into our main number, they get prompted with the McCleod tone. If they enter a code (I don't think the codes are verified - you can enter anything you like) they then get forwarded to the telephone number of a cell phone belonging to one of our employees. Our phone system never rings. That cell phone number happens to be a toll call from our office. If a caller dials the same phone number locally then there are no problems - our phones ring as expected. Nobody has touched the system programming of either the TD1232 or TVS200 recently. Today I took a look at the programming within the TD1232 and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. It doesn't strike me that a user doing station programming could forward incoming lines. Nobody but myself has access to the system programming. The extension of the user who owns the cell phone in question doesn't have forwarding turned on. It seems like what could be happening is that the incoming calls are being immediately forwarded to the outside cell phone number. Since that's a long distance call, they get the McCleod tone. I'm told that when this happens, though, the switch is virtually instantaneous - the caller hears no rings before getting the prompt. Any ideas? Is there _any_ chance this could be caused by something within our KSU or VPS - either the programming or a hardware malfunction?
