I am a groomer and have come across lots of ear infections.  I would definitely get a second opinion from a different vet.  Sometimes ear infections are so deep that the Otimax is not enough to clear it up and the dog needs to be on oral antibiotics along with the ointment, sometimes for as long as 10 days to two weeks.  I would also make sure that all the hair is plucked out of the ear canal.  Some vets are lazy and don’t do it.  You can also ask your local groomer to do it for you if you feel uncomfortable about doing it.  One last thing I would consider, sometimes dogs get ear infections because of allergies.  So even once the vet clears up the infection, if the dog is still being exposed to allergens he will get chronic ear infections.  Things to look for, is the dog going to the bathroom where fertilizer and pesticides are put down?  Are you using strong cleaning products on the floor or rugs where the dog frequents?  Are you feeding a dog food with lots of preservatives and coloring?  Foods like Solid Gold, Canidae, Flint River Ranch, Life’s Abundance and Wellness are all great foods with natural ingredients.

I hope I have given you a place to start.
