Well, that's just a bit of a trip to Michigan.
Have you looked around for rescue in your area? I too think that it is a bummer when people get too busy for their dogs, but it happens and I would rather see a dog go into a new home with time to spend, then to stay in a home where they are not getting the love and exercise they need.
Try searching for poodles on petfinder in your area and then e mail rescues that have poodles to see if they have room for a mix. There aren't any doodle rescues that I know of but many poodle rescuers (such as myself) will take poodle mixes to rehome. A shelter environment does not sound like it would be good for this dog, you really want to do your best to get him into a foster situation with somebody who is well versed in rehab. It sounds like your dog just needs some stimulation to get over his fears. A shelter is OVER stimulation and will not be good for him.
Good
luck,
Abbie

care of by its gaurdian, be that a home in the country
or city. It doesn't matter where you live to a dog as
long as you spend time with the.
From the sounds of it you may be just what he needs.
A dog would much rather stay with his family than to
be passed off to someone else. Especially a dog like
this, it will be very unnerving for him to be placed
in another home and have to learn everything all over
again.
A big backyard is no prerequisite for getting or
keeping a dog. You took on this dog and you should
give him the best life that you can. If that means
walking him, then you walk him.
You cannot turn him into a rescue or shelter without
telling the people the 100% truth about him. And
there is a good chance he would be euthanized at a
shelter, now thats not a fair life for him.
There are some very good reasons to place a dog but
(just can't fit him in) isn't one.
