Unfortunately when you use a bottle with a fine mist the puppy sees the bottle and then of course is very good if you have it in your hand.  If there is any squirting to do I use a 30cc syringe and keep it behind my back at all times.  It is then whipped out very fast accompanied with a very firm OFF, or STOP, depending on the offence.  The target is the rear not the face.  This way the puppy hears the word and associates it with the touch on the rear.
