"Rise" is just the technical term for how high the "body" part of the pants is.

"Body" part??? I thought "body" meant the biggest part of whatever, and that's the *legs* in pants... <g>

A young relative had them on the other day, no little fat roll, but I wondered if she realized the effect they were likely to have on others of the opposite gender.

Possibly; it seems to be an instinct :) I've seen some 5yr olds playing "tease" (without really having any idea why), and, by 12, most of us had an inkling of the "why" (at least when I was growing up) though we'd have been as appaled/frightened as the 5yr olds, if "taken up on it"...

The most tantalising photo I've ever seen in Playboy (and Playboy being forbidden by the virtue/sin of being an example of "capitalist excess and exploitation", it was the most commonly smuggled item and widely accessible) was that of a girl in low-rise ("hipsters", at that time) jeans, with the zipper down about an inch. She wore a long-sleeved shirt on top (the sleeves rolled up to mid-arm), with the bottom part unbuttoned, and tied under the bust. So only the midriff was showing... But, the "itch" to *find out* whether or not she wore bikini under the jeans was comparable to wanting to find out what the Scotts wore under their kilts... :)
