I'm currently working on my luggage label piece of lace for the Lace Guild Census of Lacemakers, and I'm beginning to regret deciding on a curved miniature piece. I started with Honiton bobbins, and abandoned those because with RA I found them very difficult to pick up. Now I've sorted out my lightest Midlands, and am on my third start with those.
For the first I tried using a scanned reduction of the pattern. That was too light to see the pattern markings between the pin holes. For the second I decided to modify the pattern and drew the whole lot. The lines were too thick for me to see the thread paths under the threads. So the third attempt is a good reduced photocopy with only the headside Tippexed out and redrawn where the holes are furthest apart. When I first started, I thought I was working with a cobweb, but now the thread seems thick and the thinnest pins I can find seem like javelins.
