That thread is invaluable in knitting not only fine lace but any patterned garment. If an error occurs, the "retro-knitting" can be done down to the "safety thread," the stitches picked up, and off you go...I use a contrasting colored thread - often a perle cotton but have been known to use whatever is at hand.
