If you can find the website selling the illegal copies, could you make a complaint to the ISP concerned?

I think people think twice about copying Disney stuff because they are known to prosecute, but that is expensive. The only way forward there would be to join forces with other Spanish magazines who are being treated in this way - I doubt you are the only one. Laws vary from country to country, but I think this is covered under European copyright law so you may have some redress there. Although expensive to chase, it might only take one successful prosecution to make others wary. If copyright holders are known to sit back and do nothing, then people will carry on copying as they think they are "safe" doing so.

Liz stated that passing her magazines to a charity shop or friend would be illegal - it is perfectly legal to give away or sell any publication you have bought, as long as you do so without changing its cover/binding and copyright notices, and do not keep a copy (in any form*) of any of its contents. In this case it would probably depend on what conditions have been put on the use of the I-pad version - a grey area which could be settled by an email to the publisher, no doubt.

* eg a dressmaking pattern which is published for single use - I used to work with a friend who was a dressmaker, and if she was to make more than one garment from a pattern she had to buy separate patterns for each. Policing this for cross stitch magazines must be a nightmare!

Hi Brian,

Regarding your suggestion, I must explain that my magazine is only sold
printed. And what Spanish people are doing, with most books and magazines
on sale is scanning and/or photocopying them and selling them or exchanging
them for free download on the web.
