For those who don't know, and not just because it was my husband who was
manning the stand, it is the person who puts the item up for sale on the
50/50 stand who sets the price, not The Lace Guild. If they overprice
their item then they will most likely end up taking it home with them -
though some items do end up being donated to the Guild to sell at a
later date, and when this happens they are sold at a sensible price! I
don't know if Cathy's book sold or at what price - and it is no good
asking him, he's been to bed since then!
At the end of the day, any item is only worth what the last person paid
for it (or an identical item) - there is no proof of value above that,
other than "expert opinion" - and we all know what an ex-spurt is!!!.

A friend rang me on her mobile from the Lace Guild AGM in April to say
there was a second hand copy of my book on the 50/50 stand and did I
want her to buy it for me? It was £50 - was I going to pay £50 for a
copy of my own book - I don't think so! I know the seller was only
going to receive £25 of that, but had I been offered it for £25 I would
have bought it from her and passed it on, and yes I know the Lace Guild
would also have received £25.
