Dave, I think there is working hard when you have the ball and working hard when you don't and I guess I was thinking about his work rate when we are in possession. If you watch his movement off the ball he is constantly darting in to gaps to make himself available and always wants the ball, that quality is invaluable. You can't say the same about Howson and Johnson. I concede he's not the best when we need to win the ball back and I think you need a no nonsense player in there alongside him. Having said that, I would have liked to have seen Killkenny and Bannen in the same team to see if it could work. You could be right about the man management thing. I doubt Killkenny is happy about the way he has been overlooked at times and I suspect he will be on his way. David Brennan wrote:
Si You've probably seen Kilkenny play loads more than me this season, and I respect your football knowledge, but the times I've seen Kilkenny play I haven't seen h im work hard and get stuck in anywhere near as much as you want your midfielders to. I do agree he has loads of ability and skill, but I don't see him applying himself all the time. It could be match fitness as you say, or it could be an a ttitude problem, that is exacerbated by being dropped? I thought it was refreshing to see him right in the middle of the melee against Burnley, but he hasn't always shown that type of gumption when I've seen him pla y. You could say that Kilkenny and his ilk are the polar opposite to Becchio's - on e's got ability but doesn't always try, the other isn't as blessed but always gi ves 100%. I find the former more frustrating to watch than the latter as they c an do it when they want to, whereas the latter can't even though they try And w hen they do screw up I'm more forgiving. Or maybe it's a man management thing, and Grayson has brought the best out of Be cchio, but not managed with Kilkenny? _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman-new.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] MARCHING ON TOGETHER (There's it)
