As an education person. I totally agree.

Teaching methods, technology are way ahead of my school days.

Problem is the need to show success with bollox like A*s.

It should always be based on %. Top 10 get A next 10 B etc.... If you are in a 
strong year then tough that way everyone knows where you are compared to peers

Actually all this proved is that the current "Oh exams are getting easier
than in our day" stance is bollox.
11 Plus - I'm Oxford material.
In the real world - I got 5 O Levels and 3 CSE's (For anyone younger than
30 CSE's were the most pointless qualification ever. Lasted about 5 years
and then were binned. It basically meant "You'd done some maths" (c Sean
Lock 2011!)
Current Day - Reading my 10 year old Maths homework, I haven't a bloody clue!
