The players seem to think they can get better elsewhere and invariably they have. If the players feel the offer is well below what they are worth it is bound to have a negative effect on their morale. Knowing they're not even close to agreeing terms and 'star players' may leave will also have a negative effect on the morale of the other players. In some cases that may be a 'you greedy b@stard' reaction and in others a 'the tight b@stard' reaction but whichever it is it's not going to be good for team spirit.
