And he's probably right, what you're missing is that 18 months ago when we
made him captain he didn't feel confident that we would be challenging for
promotion this year.

Mark, Howson would not have had the benefit of hindsight when negotiations
began last xmas and if the club had proved it was ambitious and were willing
to offer premier league wages to match the premier league ticket prices he
would have signed long before now.

It has everything to do with the lack of ambition being shown by the club. A
club which was attempting to keep its best players and attracting good ones
too shows ambition. A club losing better players than it brings in and
failing to invest in the playing staff shows a lack of ambition.
