Of course he’s not solely to blame for everything bad that happens. I’d argue that we don’t gift them that second and give them a confidence boost and a way back into the match we run out comfortable winners. You watch games analytically but on the other hand you don’t like stats? How does that work? I’m not trying to make him a scapegoat for all our woes but the Sunderland equliser and the second yesterday are unforgivable for a keeper at this level. If he’s made two of that calibre already this season how many more is he going to make? Can we afford to find out? I’m intrigued by your sweeper comment - can you provide examples that show he’s effective at that? He participates in our build up from the back but I don’t recall too many instances of him sweeping up behind the defence. More often Rodon /Struijk win the ball and play it back to him. I’m not sure how stating a save percentage of 66% is garbage is twisting the facts to suit. That 66% is a fact and it is also a fact that it is the 18th highest amongst championship keepers. I’d say 18th out of 24 was garbage. Certainly for a team chasing promotion. The circumstances one is an interesting point. I think often it’s him dithering on his line or flapping at crosses that creates the problems , I certainly think it contributes to our poor record defending set pieces. Watch him closely next game he plays (hopefully not for us). Count the number of times he claims a cross from a corner or free kick, how many times he’s rooted to his line and how many times he starts to come, hesitates and goes back. I bet there’s very few of the first and a lot of the other two. It’s not that I don’t like him, I just don’t think he’s a very good goalkeeper and I think he has cost us key points and will continue to do so.

To me, it's irrational to blame one person for the results of a team game, but to some it's easier to say it's all his fault than look at the actual circumstances that created that "error". Actually, I said you can twist stats to suit and you did just that by claiming that a 66% save rate is garbage. Part of the reason, teams don't get a shot on target is Mesliers role as sweeper, but we'll gloss over that too. You don't like him, we get it.
