FTM was a good program, I used it from v4-v11 before switching to Legacy. I believe since Ancestry bought FTM out, the problems may have occurred. The main reason I switched was for pictures. At that time, pictures were embedded in FTM, but linked to Legacy. The embedding inflated the file terribly.
I have been a member of Ancestry for many years and will continue to be a member. $300 a year is eaten up fast visiting repositories in various areas to obtain the same material. I still do visit repositories for things not accessible on Ancestry. Also the ease at obtaining info on the spot with Ancestry is well worth the $300. How many times I would come home from NARA, entered the info, and then realized something else I should have looked for. Just my humble opinion, not affiliated, etc. Elsie (Scharpf) Saar Genealogy research American: Parks, Avann, Bulson, Soden, Menkens German: Wienecke, Storz, Scharpf, Saar, Stelzer ----- Original Message ----- From: tbbstny To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, December 22, 2009 11:50 AM Subject: [LegacyUG] Using Legacy with Ancestry.com or other online programs The thread(s) on FTM vs Legacy have me curious how others integrate Legacy and other online programs such as Ancestry.com (which I keep thinking about signing up for). *Even if FTM is adware for Ancestry, do you still make use of Ancestry? (Sort of wondering if the, uh, frustration? on the other threads is only toward FTM, or Ancestry in general?) * Are there other online options that partner better with Legacy (commercial or roll your own site)? *Any tips and tricks to minimize the double entry?
