The main thing I do with double entry between two programs is to have both
programs open at the same time. I would first have FTM 2009 download the
information then copy any text to Windows Notepad to get rid of any HTML code,
then paste it into the second genealogy program (The Master Genealogist in my
case). In the case of the census, this is more work having to attach the
source for each person. As for the images, I have always kept them all
externally in folders categorized by what they are (census, obits, etc.).
Because FTM likes to put them in one media folder, I moved it afterward to my
custom folders then had to relink the image.

Another thing I was doing was to save a Windows Notepad file of daily work
added to FTM that can be copied over to the other software. The file would
have the date in the file name so in case I didn't feel like doing it the same
day, I could use this text file to apply it to the second program. This way I
would know what new items were added to FTM. Sometimes I would add it to the
Task Notes, but my Task List is so long now it's impossible to keep up with it.
I have old tasks from FTM and TMG that go way back to 2000. Using either
Notepad or WordPad is more useful because you can make the window smaller.
Word and all its toolbars take up too much room.

I don't use FTM anymore and haven't bothered updating much in it because it's
too much work since all my images have become unlinked again. They never did
fix that problem and I gave up on customer support. They got a very strong
letter from me for their incompetence.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Using Legacy with Ancestry.com or other online programs

The thread(s) on FTM vs Legacy have me curious how others integrate Legacy and
other online programs such as Ancestry.com (which I keep thinking about signing
up for).

*Even if FTM is adware for Ancestry, do you still make use of Ancestry?

(Sort of wondering if the, uh, frustration? on the other threads is only toward
FTM, or Ancestry in general?)

* Are there other online options that partner better with Legacy (commercial or
roll your own site)?

*Any tips and tricks to minimize the double entry?
