That is what I did too, and was warning of the volatility of the Renumber buttons, to all that use the RINs as a file system (web-based stuff). Every six months or so this situation is revisited, but many newbies haven't heard it yet, nor guess that is lurking on the system. Rich in LA CA

(CAPS DELIBERATELY ADDED). Because I was either ignorant or was not paying attention to this feature on an upload of my 20K+ names about 18 months ago agfter a PC crash, all my MRIN numbers were changed. I did not discover this until all my backups files had been changed, rendering my filing system a complete disaster. I've spent the better part of the past year+ re-establishing my MRIN filing system. I just finished this project last week and learned a )(*&)(*& lot about good backup and storing same on a 'DO NOT OVERWRITE' copy at more than one location. I thought my backup was safe, but observed that I had saved the corrupted file to my many backups in the incorrect set-up (wailing and gnashing of teeth at that point....). FWIW I learned a valuable but painful lesson here which I thought I would share! :-) Bob ---- Ron Ferguson <[email protected]> wrote: > > I do not agree that using RINs sets one up for problems.
