Ah, the wonders of a modern operating system! What works for some probably
won't work for others.

I have run Legacy v7 under both Win7 32-bit and 64-bit with no problems under
either. I currently have UAC turned off but just for giggles I re-set it back
to the default position, rebooted, and was able to run Legacy, modify the data,
and resave the family file with no problems. I've also found that the program
runs just fine when installed into "Program Files" ("Program Files(x86)" in
64-bit) and not "C:\Legacy".

I have carefully read Support's statement about turning off UAC but now I
wonder if the problem is only in the initial installation and the entering of
the customer number. Since this path and data get written into the registry
maybe this is the only speed-bump that Legacy is occurring under Win7. I'm
going to be installing a Win7 64-bit system next week and I think I'll test
this out leaving UAC in its default position. And if this turns out to be only
a problem during installation and registration, then maybe turning off UAC
should be a TEMPORARY fix and some users should reset the UAC after Legacy is
up and running.

You should note that turning off UAC has the following cautions from Microsoft:
"Not recommended. Choose this only if you need to use programs that are not
certified for Windows 7 because they do not support User Account Control."
Interestingly a visit to the Windows 7 Compatibility Center
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7) fails to show any
mention of Legacy as either compatible, partially, or not compatible. Many
other genealogy programs are listed. Legacy is a big omission. I can't believe
that not a single Legacy user has ever made a compatibility submission
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Feedback/default.aspx?feedbacktype=suggest).
 Guess I'll be the first.
