Just to clarify, I don't use the automatic search within Legacy either and 
don't know how it functions regarding diacriticals.  I'm just saying that my 
René-Bernard Des Lauriers posted at RootsWeb, for example, would be invisible 
to anyone who searched the site for Rene Bernard DesLauriers so I enter a 
couple of different versions as alternate names.

Yes, I suppose it is useful if you are going to do "automatic" Internet
searches.  Personally, I prefer to have more control and I never use the
Internet Search functions in Legacy.  (Good thing I said "I don't
understand why..." and not "There is no need to ..."!!)
