Greeting Jenny, I'm not wanting telling anyone how to structure and choose their method of entering citations or notes (after all, that is the beauty of Legacy is that it is very flexible in that regard) but wouldn't you agree that "Notes, Dates, etc to explain the change of name" can also be entered via the Alternate Names window via the Notes/Comments of the source citation to that name? I just didn't want anybody to get the idea that by using the Alternate Names window would preclude them from entering any notes whatsoever.
I'm trying to think ahead here and the one big difference is that using the Alternate Names window would have the notes only appear in reports as part of the source citation footnote in tiny font (either at the bottom on the page or at the end) whereas using the AKA Event would have the notes appear in reports as part of the main body of text. The other difference is that by using the Alternate Names window and when printing reports, the user could choose to eliminate source citations (I don't recommend that) and thereby the accompanying Notes, or the user could print the source citations but choose not to have the Notes that are part of the citation printed. Maybe it all boils down as to just what is in those notes and whether the user wants to share that with the world.:-) Using the AKA Event means the Notes will always print (assuming that the user has included events in which the choice is all or none).
