I agree, and I thought I said so. But if you think of long location name
as an internal format, and short location name as an external format,
then all is copasetic. I actually use this method. I use the short
location name as the name I want displayed in reports, web pages, etc.

Yes, but a new person without any preconceived notions might be able to
wire his/her brain to think this way. I would be in the same boat as
you.

It can be displayed in some reports.

Again, a change of mindset is required. As I said, I use the short
location name as the name I want displayed in reports, web pages, etc.
So, in some cases, the short name is actually longer than the long name!
It required a little getting used to at first, but I automatically
change the short name to a display name whenever I add a new location
now.

I am not suggesting that you should. I am just throwing out ideas for
others who may be just starting. I am not recommending any particular
method.
