Hi

About 7 or 8 months ago I changed over from Vista to Windows 7 64Bit and had no
problems with Legacy locating my images. I have about the same number and type
as you do. All I did was to direct Legacy to the folder where I keep all my
Legacy images and they all appeared as before.

To do this you need to keep all your Legacy images in the same folder. If you
do it makes it much easier for Legacy to locate them again, rather than having
Legacy search all over the hard drive which can take a long time.

Here are some things to try, Perhaps you have already tried them.

Have you chosen the option to search for the pictures yourself?
What was the outcome?

Could you locate them on your hard drive using this method? When Legacy doesn’t
locate an image with a broken link I often choose this option. If you can
located your image files doing it this way then you do not have a problem. If
you cannot located your image files you have a problem with WIN7 and not Legacy.

Before your changed over to WIN7, did you back up your files, particularly your
Legacy files and did you restore them or did you just re-load legacy and go
from there? Backing up your legacy files should also have backed up your image
files which would have been restored when you restored Legacy to your hard
drive.

The only setting for images in Legacy that I am aware of is under <OPTIONS>,
CuSTOMISE> , <locations tab> Picture Files. You can customize the setting to
have Legacy store all your pictures in a certain folder, which is what I
generally do. It can be any drive. However, when image links have been broken
I have not found this setting an issues in re-locating images to reconnect the
links as long as the images are on the hard drive

Kind Regards
Garry Howard

Subject: [LegacyUG] Probelms changing to Windows 7

Dear Forum members,

I have had several problems with the Legacy program after changing over to
Windows7. Most of these I have managed to solve one way or the other.
One problem persists and I would ask for some advise and suggestions from the
learned panel of experts.

A large number of pictures have not been located by the program. These are
pictures of BMD certificates and census documents, which were attached to the
relevant event on an individuals’ page.
If the picture is highlighted, then a question mark occurs, asking whether you
would like legacy to search for the file or browse for it yourself. I must
have about 500 of these!!
If I ask the legacy program to search for the missing picture – it immediately
searched the E drive [ an external back up drive] and will not search the C
drive, where the file is located. I have to then do it manually.
I have been into options/locations and set all the defaults to read the C
drive, where the documents are stored. But, the legacy program search still
only wants to read the external E drive. If I disconnect the E drive, it finds
nothing at all.

Is there a setting that I am missing here?
Please help – this will take me weeks to get it all back to where it was. I
have over 6000 people on my data base.

Regards,

Mike Bridgeford
