It does seem as though you have a corrupt file, which would not really
surprise me. Disks are not suitable for long-term storage, and I suspect
that you have just found an example to prove the point.

I'm afraid I know nothing of the technology which may help recover the
content - in fact I don't know if there is any - so, I regret that I am
unable to help.

I do have LTools but am not anywhere close to an experienced user.  It
wouldn't open Lill Ann's file, either.  Bummer!
