After reading all the comments on this thread I went back and tried the Descendant Chart report in Legacy 4.0, 5,0 and 6.0. In those versions if the option to just leave it blank for missing spouses was selected the chart did not use the word "unknown" for a missing spouse. I have therefore entered a problem report to have the "unknown" on chart match the setting in the Options > Customize > Data Format tab.
