All suggestions that I have read from the "experts" say that you should record
the location as it was at the time of the event. That is a practice that I
have adopted and as a result, I have adjusted my locations to be that way. I
feel that we shouldn't forget the history and it should be studied to better
understand the life and times of our ancestors.

Besides my example of Detroit, Michigan in the United States, I have similarly
recorded locations in Europe, such as those in Wurttemberg which is now part of
Baden-Wurttemberg in Germany. This didn't exist at the time of the event, so
it is recorded as Wurttemberg (no Germany included in the location name). If I
have no events in the same location since it became part of Germany, then that
location is not in my database. All of my previously listed location names for
Detroit are in my database because I have events recorded in that place at the
time that each of those existed.

Once again, I will say that this is my opinion and what I have decided to do in
my database. This has not greatly expanded my location list but I'm not going
to go down that road again about the use of the Master Location List.
