Thank you all for the advice. I like the idea of adding them based upon how strong the “possibility” of a connection may be. For example I’m currently researching surname Hewitt. There seem to be soooo many, however I’m focusing on West Virginia which seems to narrow it down quite a bit.

To keep this a Legacy topic - you can add unlinked or potentially linked people to your family file. I have added small 'islands' of people to my database when I'm fairly sure there's a connection but not proved it, later (sometimes much later) if research proves the link, l'll merge the trees. A warning though, unless you are researching a fairly unique surname, your file could be very unwieldy. Do you add anyone with the surname your are searching or only those people with a confirmed link? Until now I’ve only been adding only those that I can confirm a link. However, lately I’m wondering if I’m overlooking a lot of potential links because they may be several generations previous to the one I’m currently searching. Just wondering how you all feel about this too.
