I have worked on my family tree for about 30 years now, on different software products until I finally found Legacy - and yes, I'm a happy Legacy user. I started out doing this as a way to keep track of which kid belonged to which cousin and who that cousin married and when so and so died... never dreaming that I would graduate to enjoying the jigsaw puzzle-ness of genealogy. That being said, we live in the area where my husband's grandparents soon landed after their arrival from Norway. Along with his grandfather, his great - aunt and her husband and family also lived here. They had a huge family... About 10 years ago, I created another family file named with the small town that we are from... In it, I've copied and pasted online birth notices, wedding announcements and obituaries from our local papers. In that file alone, I have over 6000 people and over 1500 families. Every once in a while, I will use the "compare two files for duplicates" and move those people that match over to my regular family file. Yes, I realize that some of these people are not truly our relatives... but when you live in a small town, it's interesting to find out who has maybe a shirt tail relationship. And it's kind of fun to talk to a friend of yours and say, "You know that your great grandmother's sister is a cousin to my husband's grandfather's sister?" And you realize quickly that talking about someone in a small town might mean that you are talking about a relative...
