Marg:

Here is what I do for Census and associated source using the Basic
Source Writer:

I create an Event for the Head of Household as follows:
Event:  Census
Description:  Blank
Date:  4 Jun 1880
Place: Columbia, Wapello Co, IA, USA

I source this event with the following information:
Source List Name: Census - 1880 - Columbia, Wapella Co, Iowa -
Chapman, Wells Henry

Type:  Census

Author:  Blank

Title: US Federal Census - 1880 - Columbia, Wapella Co, Iowa, USA

Publication Facts:  1880;  Census Place: Columbia, Wapello, Iowa;
Roll: T9_367; Family History Film: 1254367; Page: 15.3000; Enumeration
District: 55; Image: 0441.  W.H. Chapman, age 53, b. OH, farmer;
Elizabeth Chapman, age 42, b. OH, keeping house; William M. Chapman,
age 22, b. OH, farm worker; George E. Chapman, age 21, b. OH, farm
worker; Willsy H. Chapman, age 13, b. OH, farm worker; Ella Chapman,
age 7, b. OH; Daisy Chapman, age 3, b. IA.

Date: 14 Jun 1880 -- this is the date on Census record

I then copy the event with this source to everyone that is listed as
family members on the Census. I also use the census source for each
persons name.

I do not insert a copy of the census image as part of the source -- I
tried that, but when you print a report, the image is so small it is
not readable.

Here is what the Event will look like when printed for the individual:

* He appeared on the census on 14 Jun 1880 in Columbia, Wapell Co, IS, USA(1).

Here is what the Source would look like in a book if printing sources
at the end:

(1)  US Federal Census - 1880 - Columbia, Wapella Co, Iowa, USA (1880;
 Census Place: Columbia, Wapello, Iowa; Roll: T9_367; Family History
Film: 1254367; Page: 15.3000; Enumeration District: 55; Image: 0441.
W.H. Chapman, age 53, b. OH, farmer; Elizabeth Chapman, age 42, b. OH,
keeping house; William M. Chapman, age 22, b. OH, farm worker; George
E. Chapman, age 21, b. OH, farm worker; Willsy H. Chapman, age 13, b.
OH, farm worker; Ella Chapman, age 7, b. OH; Daisy Chapman, age 3, b.
IA.)

I find this approach works fine for me. It is important to doucment
all of the census informaton & the people listed on the census.

Census Information: US Federal Census - 1880 - Columbia, Wapella Co,
Iowa, USA (1880;  Census Place: Columbia, Wapello, Iowa; Roll: T9_367;
Family History Film: 1254367; Page: 15.3000; Enumeration District: 55;
Image: 0441

Hope this example helps.
