Thanks, Mike, Brian, Howland, Paula, Terri, et. al. for your suggestions.
Looks as if uninstalling is the next thing to try.

HOWEVER, I'm having too much fun researching just now to mess with that.
  I'll just keep on exercising my finger until I come to a good stopping
place.  Will let you know whether or not the uninstall works when I get
around to doing it.
