Your advice is very good.  The condition that Sharon described can be
replicated by closing all databases in Legacy.  Note that she said that she can
open Legacy.  That will leave only the Internet and Exit icons colored and the
rest grayed out.  If the Census icon is on the tool bar, it will also be
colored.  The menu bar above the icons should still be operational with the
File, Internet, and Help buttons not grayed out.  The obvious thing (before a
re-install) would be to use the File button and try to open a Legacy database.
If that fails and the Help button fails to give the "General Information", then
Sharon should definitely follow the directions you provided.  If Legacy will
not open, then your method is the best option.

The OP mentioned that she cannot open Legacy  let alone click on any menu items
in order to retried a customer number. In addition, she would not be able to
update or attempt to re-update from within Legacy.

So, let’s begin with the customer number first. If she does not have it written
down anywhere in her own files then she has two choices:  the first and easiest
method is to use Windows Explorer and look in the main Legacy folder on her
hard drive for a file named “Legacy7.Lic”. It is a simple text file that has
her name, customer number and date of original install. If for some reason,
that file cannot be located, then contact [email protected], provide
them with a name and they should be able to help.

Now, on to the problem with the update. Just point your web browser to
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/helpError380.asp and click on the update.
Follow the instructions. If after installing the update, the error still
persists, then delete from the Legacy folder on your hard drive the files that
end with .USR. Once you get Legacy back up and running, you will have to
complete all those nice little settings and preferences that took you months to
get just right (those were your .USR files).

And if none of that works, either email support or give them a call at
1-425-788-0932.

Hope that helps.

You can see possible solutions to numbered errors by clicking "Online
Troubleshooting Help" on the "Legacy Home" tab.  Then click "Solutions by Error
Number" and find the number you need.  This 380 error suggests a re-install.
You can first click on Help>General Information and record your Customer Number
in case it gets deleted.  You should not need it for the re-install as that
process will find the license and over-write the prior install.  Download the
full install package from Millennia for the free "standard" version.  It will
install (with password Legacy7) and should automatically convert to the deluxe
version.  If it does not, then re-enter your customer number under Help.  Let
us know if that corrects your problem.

Using v7.5, but not the latest update. Legacy will open with the flash screen
and a blank Legacy screen behind the flash screen. Icons on the bar are blacked
out except for the Internet icon and the Exit icon. Tried downloading and
installing the latest version, but it will not open either.

I have been a deluxe user forever. Rarely have any problems at all. Now I'm
getting an error 380.

Ok, great and powerful users, any help appreciated.

Oh, and if whether or not I need to uninstall, I have no idea what my customer
number is so I can use Legacy deluxe again.

Thanks all..
Sharon
