Bill, I also can remember my grandparents, both of whom also born in the late 1800s, and, like you, see information published which I personally know to be wrong. I have also been able to fill in some gaps in the archives for a couple of organisations of which my grandfather was a member.
My memory does actually go back somewhat further - I can just remember a great uncle born in 1866!
