Option 1.8 Integrate with Family Search only activates the Legacy Family Tree program components that allow you to integrate with Family Search. It does not move any data one way or the other in and of itself. Also, before you can exchange any data, you must have a FamilySearch account. These are free and if you've done any indexing for them or any Temple submissions, you already have an account. If you've done extensive searching on their site and gotten an account to view some of the images that are only available to those with logins then you already have an account.
Once you have a FamilySearch account and the Legacy Family Tree integration tools activated (Option 1.8), then you can start matching individuals in your Legacy family tree with their corresponding record(s) on FamilySearch, best done one individual at a time. The goal on FamilySearch is to have only one record for any individual, but there will probably always be some duplicates floating around. Once you've matched an individual record, then you can start exchanging information for that individual - uploading items that you have that are missing or incorrect on the FamilySearch record and downloading items that you need for your Legacy record for the individual. The controls on FamilySearch are not as strong as on WikiTree which has both advantages and disadvantages. But for your persons of interest, you can monitor what changes others are making. First you have the indicators in Legacy. Once you have integrated the data for an individual, the interface indicator arrows for that individual will turn green. If you change something in Legacy for that individual, the upload arrow will change back to red, and if someone elsechanges something on FamilySearch for the individual, the download arrow will change back to red. There is also an indicator in Legacy if there are duplicates for an individual that you've linked to on FamilySearch. It will go away if the duplicates are cleared and reappear if a new duplicate is created. In addition, you can also create a Watch List on FamilySearch of your persons of interest and you will get an email if any changes are made to the records on your watch list. The main problem I have with it is you have to enter the source information manually. It would be nice if it would just take my sources instead so I don't have to do the extra work looking them up. I downloaded some of FS information to use as leads because I didn't already have the information. I've always been a little suspicious of FS data because, as Ron mentioned, it is user submitted and I always find a lot of wrong information submitted for my family especially since I personally knew my great aunts and uncles born in the late 1800's. I usually find them attached to the wrong families especially at a certain other popular family tree website I won't mention.
