Yes, I see. A new empty file into which the gedcom from Ancestry goes. Tidy up and delete rubbish.
Then, should I add a copy of my Legacy family file or a gedcom from it and then save the resultant merge as a new family file? The biggest problem I see with this scenario is that I shall have lost all pictures and linked files, won't I?
