The thing is that if you BACKED UP your family file, using the Backup
option in the Legacy file menu, you should have a backup file with a
.zip extension and you will need to use the Restore option (again from
the Legacy file menu) to get your family file open in Legacy and you can
then save it where you want  as an .fdb file.  You cannot just open a
backup/zip file in the same way that you normally open your family file.

If you copied your family file or the various other linked files you
should be able to copy them back off the CD and open in the usual way,
but obviously this is not happening.

What files are you seeing on your CD?  When you look at other files on
your computer do you usually see the filename extension?  It is possible
to have your computer set to hide the extension for common file types.
