I should have explained my problem better. When using the "Shared Event" for a residence, with the census as a source, the widow's married name was Anna Zatkoff, (maiden name - Kazadowiew). The 1940 census gives her name as Anna Zatkoff, which is what the narrative report should show for her children. But as you will see below in #3 & #5, it lists Anna's name as Kazadowiew. The report should show her name as it appears in the census.
I don't expect this to happen automatically and am more than happy to make a manual change to show her married name. My question is how can I manually make the change? I realize that I can manually enter the specific wording for each of Anna's 9 children, but would really like to use the "shared event" feature. Samuel ZATKOFF [205], son of Maxim ZATKOFF and Anna KAZADOWIEW, was born on 10 Feb 1920 in Cokeburg, Washington, Pennsylvania, USA, was baptized in Mariana, , Pennsylvania, USA, and died on 29 Sep 1993 at age 73. Noted events in his life were: 1. He was Orthodox. 2. He has conflicting birth information of Bet 1919 and 1920 and Pennsylvania, USA. 3. Samuel appeared in the household of Anna KAZADOWIEW in a census on 1 Apr 1930 in North Bethlehem, Washington, Pennsylvania, USA. 4. Samuel attended school prior to 1 Apr 1930. 5. He was an occupant at the residence of Anna KAZADOWIEW on 1 Apr 1930 in North Bethlehem, Washington, Pennsylvania, USA. 6. He had a residence on 29 Sep 1993 in Porter, Porter, Indiana, USA. -----Original Message----- From: Kurt Kneeland [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, April 10, 2014 6:52 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Shared Event uses maiden name instead of married name You can definitely use the shared event. However, her primary name will remain her birth name, so in the Census Event, you will need to say something like "listed as" with her name as listed in the census and perhaps stating "widow". I do this for anyone who isn't listed under their birth name unless it's an obvious very minor variation. -----Original Message----- From: Alan Wakenhut [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, April 10, 2014 2:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Shared Event uses maiden name instead of married name In other words, you are saying that I can't use the shared event feature for a widow as head of household. The problem isn't in the wording for her event, but her maiden name shows up in the census and residence events for her children. The census form shows her married name and that is the way it should be recorded in Legacy. I suggest that you add an option to change the name as it is appears for other family members in shared events. Individual events always use the surname of the person, after all she may have had more than one husband and how would Legacy know which marriage to use for the surname. For the same reason you cannot try to have an individual event use a spouse name, if you try Legacy will just use the person's name.
