I gave up and used the sentence override for each child. I at first thought that the shared event feature was a great time saver when entering data from a census, except when the head of household used a different name than the one designated as the proper name.
I realized while doing the overrides that the first name for the widow was different than her first name on the census. Her designated name was Anna and the census used Annie. Also, some of the children's names were different than the designated name. i.e.: Nellie instead of Nathelia. Since I am a stickler for using the data exactly as it was reported in the record, I am starting to have my doubts about using the shared events anymore. Now I have to determine if I have to change the first names for the other members of the family in all of the shared events I have entered. Despite this problem, I still think that Legacy is the best program on the market. I am glad that I found this problem, because our genealogical society will devote all of our monthly meetings next year teaching our members how to research, evaluate and enter records into Legacy. We will be doing an actual case study on the family of Henry Ford. We picked the Ford family since we are in the Detroit area and everyone one in this area knows something about the Fords. Thanks to everyone for your comments. Since I haven't used the Shared Event feature, I'm wondering why #3 doesn't read : "Samuel appeared in his mother's household ...", a formulation that would accommodate the facts, your preferences, and standard Genealogical practice?
