Shirley,
I like the "Post Card Event" concept. Why? Because by placing the information and messages from the postcards into the Post Card (PC) event, you would create a broader picture of your grandparents. So many other people stick to just the basic facts such as birth, marriage and death. But by doing so, they lose the bigger picture. I wish that I had parents that had a hobby that was visible like your postcards and what they would tell you of their friends and family. I see the basic facts as a skeleton of my ancestors but the additional information that you find, including the postcards and what they tell you, is the "fleshing out of the skeleton." And by adding these PC events to your database, your children and descendants will see your grandparents as people and not just as basic facts. By adding this information to your database, you ensure that this information about your grandparents is saved and passed down. Your own grandchildren will then know these people who were your grandparents and not just the facts about your grandparents. So, yes, place the PC event and also use the PC as the source for the event that you add to the data base. I have spent many hours and days trying different ways of recording the relevant information and have come to the conclusion I need advice from those more experienced. My first thought was that it is a source. (to quote Jeff "what have you got in your hand") But I want to be able to choose if a transcript of the relevant sentences are printed on reports or not and this can be achieved by entering as an Event with a Master Source only (no detail) So I have tried a Post Card Event which seems to work. Before I get too far down the track as I have a huge number to enter, can anyone see any problems with this or able to suggest something better.
